Picnic Dates

One Planet Picnic 2012 is on it's way.

1st - 16th September 2012

We are looking forward to a fortnight of sustainable picnics held by schools to celebrate the harvest and enjoy learning about Scottish foods. See below for competition information and photographs of One Planet Picnic fun in 2011.

What makes a picnic a One Planet Picnic?

Food that is good for you AND ALSO good for the planet.

That means:

Choosing sustainable foods

(e.g. local, seasonal, ethical)

and

Reducing Waste

(food and packaging)

Look at the Food and Environment topic in the

Eco-Schools website guide for more information.

http://www.ecoschoolsscotland.org/page.asp?pg=14

What is the Competition?

Write out a recipe for an item in your sustainable picnic.

Tell us:

  • where the ingredients came from (e.g.Scottish produce, local farm, Fair Trade item from another country)
  • how they were used (e.g. in a sandwich, in a salad)
  • how you minimised waste
  • about your picnic - who went? where was it? what else did you do?

Decorate your recipe:

  • You could, for example, use pen or pencil drawings, or computer generated designs
  • Photogaphs of your picnic would be welcome

Send in your entries:

  • to Eco-Schools online or in the post
